Tantalum, primarily used in tantalum capacitors for electronic equipment, is a rare and highly corrosion resistant refractory metal. This metal is also widely used to fabricate chemical process equipment, vacuum furnace parts, nuclear reactors, heat exchangers, aircraft and missile parts. Also, as a non-irritating metal that is immunite to body liquids, Tantalum has found wide use in surgical appliances. Tantalum oxide is used to produce special high refractive index glass for camera lenses.
